Access and embracement of child in unit of family health

Objective: to know how the family caregivers perceive the access and embracement of child, using the services of a Health Unit of the Family of city in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul. Methodology: this is about an exploratory and descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out with 11 mothers of child under 2 years old, from March to May, 2010. For data collection, a semi-structured interview with thematic analysis was used, in accordance with Minayo. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, number 23081.015582/2009-18. Results: the caregivers perceive the accessibility to the Unit facilitated by geographical and economic questions, but fragile in functional and cultural dimensions. The subjects involved in research understand that the embracement is related to the bonding, listening and solving of the child’s health needs, being the nurse's role in this process emphasized. Conclusion: the access and embracement are fundamental elements for the demand and choice for the service. In the same way, having accessibility does not guarantee access to humanized and integral health care. Metodologia: estudo de campo do tipo exploratório descritivo com abordagem qualitativa, realizado com 11 mães de crianças menores de 2 anos de idade, no período de março a maio de 2010. Para coleta dos dados foi utilizada a entrevista semi-estruturada, com análise temática, conforme Minayo.
