The objective of this research was to verify the use of the methodology of content analysis in law research and to demonstrate the possibility of applying it as an empirical scientific method in the area. To this end, a reflection was made on the current status of empirical research in the legal scientific field and some paths to be followed. In addition, a conceptual construction was carried out according to the main exponents of the content analysis method for the analysis of its scientific rigor. Subsequently, using content analysis itself as a tool based on key terms to measure scientific production, 1,600 articles were analyzed, of which it was found that only ten had legal themes, with only four being essentially legal. In this sense, it has been demonstrated that it is possible to apply the content analysis method in the legal scientific field, both through existing research that used the content analysis method in a rigorously scientific manner, and through the potential for application with other textual bases. One of the demonstrations was the very application of the methodology of content analysis for the measurement of research involving this theme, characterizing an important metalanguage directed to the research objectives.
