      A method of applying the method of straight lines is developed by reducing the problem with arbitrary linear boundary conditions to the Dirichlet problem. The most widely used method for solving heat and mass transfer problems is the finite difference method. By matching the assumed values of the function at the boundary nodes with the newly found values of the function in accordance with the approximations of the boundary conditions, the true values of the sought functions at the boundaries are found. They were then used to implement the method of straight lines, providing a second-order approximation of the equation and the boundary conditions for one coordinate.
