This paper attempts to study theme of oppression in Paul Lynch’s Prophet Song. This novel won Bookers Prize in the year 2023. Paul Lynch’s novel Prophet Song won him Bookers Prize in the year 2023. The novel is a gripping tale about oppression and repression of civil rights and freedom of the people by authoritarian government. Lynch depicts how people struggle to live in a society where they have no say or cant express their feelings and emotions. They struggle to exist amidst chaos and confusion. Lynch also beautifully narrates how people’s resilience can overcome any oppression. Lynch’s novel is highly relatable in world. It depicts modern day problems like increasing incursion on people’s life, misinformation and oppression by the government. Lynch strongly rejects any kind of restraint on a person’s freedom and liberties. Through the protagonist and other characters, Lynch depicts the importance of rights of the people. Unless people have rights and fair treatment in government system, chaos and confusion will ensue in the society. While The Prophet Song is a cautionary tale, it also makes a memorable reading.
