نبذة مختصرة : International audience ; The fracture toughness of glass can be improved by including ceramic reinforcing platelets. Among others, Al2O3 platelets are proposed as an environmentally friendly and low-cost solution. One of the critical points in the design of this composite is the generation of residual stresses after cooling in manufacture, due to the thermal expansion mismatch between the two materials. In this paper, the effect of these residual stresses and the role of the volume fraction are studied, following a methodology based on the Coupled Criterion together with the Matched Asymptotic Expansion. The model is validated through a comparison with experimental results found in the literature.
