      The present management case, developed within the scope of the Professional Master's in Education Management and Evaluation (PPGP) from the Center for Public Policy and Education Evaluation at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (CAEd / UFJF), presents a study on the possible variables external, relative to the students' context, which influence their performance in large-scale assessments. Thus, the main objective was to identify and analyze the possible factors that have influenced the low performance index of students in the 3rd year of high school at the Escola Estadual Doutor Humberto Sanches, located in São Lourenço-MG, in external evaluations, specifically in PROEB and in the area of Mathematics. PROEB is an external evaluation, applied in public schools in Minas Gerais, which seeks to carry out a census and diagnose aspects of education in the State. The research is justified based on the analysis of PROEB results, which indicate that the school has approximately 88% of its students between the low and intermediate levels and only 8.9% between the recommended and advanced levels. The analysis of the PROEB results covered the period from 2013 to 2017 and the data were obtained from the Learning Monitoring System (CAEd / UFJF). It is known that the context in which the student is inserted influences his performance in external evaluations. Therefore, we sought to elaborate a relationship between the PROEB results and the students' reality. The influence of external factors on student performance was assessed based on the following variables: social and economic vulnerability, food and violence. As a data collection instrument, bibliographic and documentary research was used, aiming at obtaining numerical indexes corresponding to the variables addressed and the vulnerability of the studied context.
