نبذة مختصرة : To allow multiple professionals to design, realise, share, use and improve a specific learning object (LO) by using a repository that store and index its successive evolutions, we need to represent the different steps followed by a LO and its metadata throughout its lifecycle. Here, we study various initiatives related to this issue and notice significant differences between them in the terms of terminology and sequences. Thus, we infer a generic representation that can be applied to any given situation. We investigate e-learning standards that deal with LO description, and suggest additional elements, together with some extra vocabulary terms in order to take into account our lifecycle representation. Metadata propagation, extraction and generation mechanisms are set up in order to facilitate indexation. Several tools are suggested for managing LO lifecycle: - a relationships representation that uses information visualisation techniques for finding learning objects and providing end-users with a general point of view on the production progress. - an Annotation Management Service that offer teachers and learners the opportunity to exploit, express and share learning objects assessments and suggestions for use when and where they become relevant. - an Evolution Management Service that allow teachers and curriculum managers to be aware of all divergences between learning objects imported within Learning Management System and their evolutions and dependencies stored into heterogeneous repositories. This approach, based on high aggregation level of learning content, has been experimented within the International E-Mi@ge distance training, a French “digital campus”.
