Public policies and agri-food systems in Argentina: between agrochemicals and agroecology (1990 - 2020) ; Políticas públicas y sistemas agroalimentarios en Argentina: entre agroquímicos y agroecología (1990 – 2020)

In recent decades, public policy decisions for agroalimentary systems in Argentina have led to important transformations in rural areas and urban-rural interface spaces, generating at the same time a reconfiguration of the social fabric. From a constructivist perspective, the article reconstructs and analyzes the trajectory of the regulatory instruments associated with the use of agrochemicals and the promotion of alternative models in Argentina between 1990 and 2020. Starting from antecedent studies, the methodological approach combines secondary statistical data with secondary information available in public and private organizations and institutions and regulations and key stakeholder interviews. The results indicate a tendency to respond to the demands of the external market in most of the period, showing a recent change in the decisions aimed at promoting agroecology. While the conventional production model prevails in Argentina, especially oriented towards exports -associated with the use of agrochemicals among other technologies-, agroecology represents a small percentage, especially linked to small family farming that channels its production into nearby markets. The emergence of agroecological productions converges with the increase of neo-rural farmers that attract new forms of repopulation of urban-rural interface spaces. ; Las decisiones de política pública en torno a los sistemas agroalimentarios en Argentina han conllevado en las últimas décadas a importantes transformaciones en las áreas rurales y en los espacios de interfaz urbano-rural, generando a la vez una reconfigurando del entramado social.
