Children and teens with cancer registered in support homes ; Crianças e adolescentes com câncer cadastrados nas casas de apoio

Objective: identifying the origin and the most common type of cancer in children and adolescents. Method: a descriptive study, with a quantitative approach and of retrospective character, held in the Houses of Child Support to children with cancer, from Natal - Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The secondary data were collected through 67 records registration of children and adolescents, and then analyzed with descriptive statistics presented in tables and discussed with the literature. This study was approved by the research project of the Research Ethics Committee, CAAE 0167.0.051.000-09. Results: the occurrence of infant-juvenile cancer in the four zones of the city. Most cases occurred in the regions North (26) and West (24). As for cancers, leukemia (25), lymphoma (12) and osteosarcoma (8) were the most frequent. Conclusion: the regions with the highest number of cancer were the northern and western areas, being the leukemia the most common cancer. Método: estudo descritivo, de abordagem quantitativa e caráter retrospectivo, realizado nas Casas de Apoio à criança com câncer de Natal-Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil. Os dados secundários foram coletados por intermédio de 67 fichas de cadastramento de crianças e adolescentes, em seguida, analisados com estatística descritiva, apresentados em tabelas e discutidos na literatura. Este estudo teve aprovado o projeto de pesquisa pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa, CAAE 0167.0.051.000-09. Resultados: a ocorrência do câncer infanto-juvenil nas quatro zonas do município. A maioria dos casos ocorreu nas zonas Norte (26) e Oeste (24). Quanto aos tipos de câncer, a leucemia (25), o linfoma (12) e o osteosarcoma (8) foram os mais frequentes.
