Convergence and fractionation: contemporary trends in the world system ; Convergencia y fraccionamiento: tendencias contemporáneas del sistema mundo

The modern world system has had a long evolution since its first steps. In the current paper this evolution will be tackled from the standpoint of the Divergence and Convergence of the West and the remaining states that integrate the World System. This theoretical framework became particularly important as historiography developed during the late XXth century in order to analyze the relationship between the different centers of the modern World-System and how that relationship adapted the current dynamics. The continuation of the debate and analysis based on this approach are still relevant to understand the evolution of the geopolitical relationships after the Global Financial Crisis and can contribute to clarify the most recent trends in the dynamics of global power. ; El sistema mundo moderno ha recorrido un largo camino evolutivo desde sus primeros compases. En el presente artículo se aborda esta evolución desde la perspectiva de la Divergencia y la Convergencia entre Occidente y los restantes estados que lo integran. Este marco teórico cobró fuerza particular en el desarrollo de la historiografía a finales del siglo XX para analizar la relación entre los diferentes centros del sistema mundo moderno y como su relación había cobrado la dinámica actual. La continuación de los debates y análisis propios de este enfoque son aún relevantes para comprender la evolución de las relaciones geopolíticas después de la crisis financiera global y puede contribuir a esclarecer las tendencias más recientes de la dinámica del poder global.
