نبذة مختصرة : Soil compaction is extremely important in the area of Civil Engineering because it is through it that we basically increase the density of the soil and reduce its porosity through effort or continuous pressure, that is, it is a process of improving soil properties. When talking about compaction, we can highlight mainly the two main parameters involved: the moisture content and the dry density. Regarding the consistency of soils, they are basically found in four states: solid, semi-solid, plastic and liquid. In order to be able to identify which state the soil is in, there are the Atterberg limits which serve to compare (or measure) the amount of water with the patterns of soil behavior in engineering. Among the limits, this study highlights the plasticity limit, which can be understood as the moisture content that separates the soil from the plastic and semi-solid state. In practice, to carry out the compaction test, it is common to adopt previous values of optimal moisture close to its plasticity limit. Thus, this work aims to analyze precisely the true linear correlation between these parameters in order to establish a more reliable relationship for the stipulation of the optimal moisture value based on its plasticity limit, or vice versa. For this, a database was created, where the characteristics of 357 different types of soil found in the most diverse Brazilian regions were analyzed. In addition, the analysis of this correlation was also carried out according to the type of soil found and according to its granulometry. The main results obtained indicate that the linear correlation between them does not tend to a 45° straight line.
