نبذة مختصرة : Background : Human genetic enhancement (HGE) is a reality in our world today. This is particularly evident in the sports and education sectors. There is no way to know, measure or determine what the ‘best-life’ is, nor may be. HGE, heritable or somatic, more often than not pushes the boundaries seemingly transcending borders of our humanness. It seems no length is far enough and there is no limit to this limitlessness. Objectives : Our objective is to find a balance between what was, what is and what might be, in the modern world of medical and technological enhancement, if proper care is not taken. Method : The study uses the method of analysis and evaluation to come to a synthesis. Result : This study raises awareness on why some of the already achieved and the other achievable HGE mile stones are not a wild goose chase. It shows what has been achieved and why it should not be based on the ‘best-life’ agenda, which is subjective, unknowable, and unachievable. Conclusion : An attempt at a ‘best-life’ can only be made if the individual and collective conscience of the persons and communities are properly formed through religious, cultural historical experiences, then more balanced personalities and societies may emerge. Key recommendation : This study recommends the practice of contentment though takes exception for cases where medical intervention to save lives are unavoidable and absolutely necessary.
