Objective: The present research seeks to analyze the contributions of Information Science (IS) to Information Retrieval (IR), considering the interdisciplinary relationship of IS with other sciences. Methodology: This is characterized as bibliographic research, at an exploratory level, based on a qualitative approach. For the bibliographic research, different sources of information were used, highlighting scientific articles, theses that address the theme, and consultation of databases, especially BRAPCI and SCIELO BR. Results: IS has information as its object of study, and therefore, it has relationships with other sciences that find information as the focus of their approach, as is the case of IR. IR involves the entire process of needs, collection, classification, organization, access and dissemination of information to the user in order to respond to informational desires in different contexts of society (social, academic, cultural, institutional, etc). Conclusions: It is considered that the contribution of IS to IR is derived from its interdisciplinary relationship, supporting it that finds its emphasis on IS, as it aims at access, search and retrieval of information from the foundations and scope of IS that deals with information in all its nuances. Thus, it complements that information is a resource of extreme value in the daily lives of individuals, and the merit lies in the CI which, in turn, enables the recovery of information with primacy in the treatment of contents through classification, cataloging and indexing for availability and later access. ; Objetivo: Esta investigación busca analizar las contribuciones de la Ciencia de la Información (CI) a las Recuperación de Información (RI), considerando la relación interdisciplinaria entre la CI y otras ciencias.
