Η Ορθόδοξος Ελληνική Κοινότητα της Ξάνθης κατά την περίοδο 1919-1926 ; The Orthodox Greek Community of Xanthi during period 1919-1926

The aim of this doctoral thesis is the study of organization and work of the Orthodox Greek Community of Xanthi during 1919-1926. Τhe Community was governed by two clubs the Elder-ship that had administrative duties and the Revenue that had economical duties. The Elder-ship had 12 members and the Revenue had 5 members. The members of those clubs were elected from the Representatives of the city that was elected from every parish of Xanthi. The members of those clubs should be males over 25 years of age and the president of all the clubs was the Metropolitan of Xanthi. After the liberation of Xanthi from the Bulgarian occupation in 1919 by the end of World War I, the city and the W. Thrace for almost 8 months was under the control of allied forces, a regime called Inter-Allied Thrace. That regime used the Elder-ship for administrative purposes with responsibilities on educational and religious issues. After the full accession of W. Thrace to Greek territory, Elder-ship kept those duties and contributed the local authorities mainly in educational issues. Greek authorities issue law that provided the end of function of Elder-ships. That law applied to Xanthi in 1924 but Elder-ship of Xanthi continued its function until February 1926. That was a necessary adjustment period because the transition to the next form of ecclesiastical local government, the parish councils was not an easy task. ; Ο σκοπός της παρούσας διδακτορικής διατριβής είναι η μελέτη του έργου και της οργάνωσης της Ορθόδοξης Ελληνικής Κοινότητας της Ξάνθης την περίοδο 1919-1926. Η Κοινότητα διοικούνταν κυρίως από δύο σωματεία την Δημογεροντία που είχε διοικητικά καθήκοντα και την Εφορεία η οποία διευθετούσε τα οικονομικά της Κοινότητας. Η Δημογεροντία είχε 12 μέλη και η Εφορεία 5 μέλη. Τα σωματεία εκείνα εκλέγονταν από την Αντιπροσωπία της πόλης η οποία εκλέγονταν από τις ενορίες της.
