      In the end, what is literature? What results would we have if literary reading practices promoted in Rural Schools centered around the student rather than the text's author? These were questions that guided the present research, aiming to reflect on the place of orality in literature – so far, closely tied to writing and other issues involving markers such as gender and class – and literary literacy in Rural Schools. Encouraging reading and writing is an emerging issue in schools, especially public ones. However, there is noticeable lack of motivation and engagement among rural students when the lesson involves reading books. The difficulty that most students face when confronted with certain literary texts is also evident, as it seems somewhat complex for readers who are still initiating their literary formation to comprehend a reality and language that never truly engages with their own. In light of this, working with oral literature in the final years of Elementary School emerges as a successful proposal, especially in the initial and consolidation stages of students' literary education. This requires, during reading sessions, a mediation effort and the provision of texts capable of "captivating" and enchanting readers who are still in the process of development. Understanding that the promotion of literary literacy truly requires actions that go beyond mere access to books, cordel literature, with its strength in orality and the bodily movement driven by the rhythm of metrics and rhymes, proves to be an important ally in stimulating this enchanting process that also involves identity and identification with what is being read. Thus, based on field research, a case study was conducted with a 9th-grade class in a Rural School, employing the method of action research, namely, participant research. Consequently, this work analyzes the potential of Cordel Literature for promoting literary literacy in the classroom.
