Georg Heinrich Jacoby married a woman 5 years his senior who died shortly after making a will that named him her sole beneficiary. He remarried a widow 4 years his senior who died under suspicious circumstances. She was attended during her fatal illness by a 24 year-old maid, Marie Huber, whom Jacoby was preparing to take as his third wife when he was arrested. The second wife's son by her first marriage was suspicious of Jacoby and pressed for an investigation into her death and exhumation of the body for toxicology testing. An autopsy showed clear evidence of arsenic poisoning. Jacoby was arrested and tried for murder. A jury found him guilty of causing death by poisoning (under Article 276 of the Criminal Code (Strafgesetzbuch)). Jacoby was sentenced to death. Huber was detained for questioning then released. Includes details of the autopsy and correspondence of Jacoby and Huber. ; Georg Heinrich Jacoby married a woman 5 years his senior who died shortly after making a will that named him her sole beneficiary.
