نبذة مختصرة : Chronic stroke-induced aphasia affects functional communication and reduces the quality of life of people with aphasia (PWA). As a result, PWA present with difficulties in narrating personal stories and maintaining meaningful dialogues with their interlocutors. The present study aims to measure the narrative skills of PWA, before and after a group intervention, and possible improvements in their functional communication and quality of life. The method involved a group intervention within a university-based communication group for PWA. The intervention process was based on the LUNA (Linguistic Underpinnings of the Narrative in Aphasia) framework following the PPI (Patient and Public Involvement) approach. The PAOLI (People with Aphasia and Other Layperson Involvement) reporting guideline was followed to monitor PPI for the co-design and co-production of the intervention. The intervention took place at the University Rehabilitation Clinic of the Cyprus University of Technology and consisted of 11 group sessions of 2 hours duration. The intervention involved the improvement of narrative skills in the level of words, sentences, and macrostructure. The content was directly related to their personal narratives. The evaluation was carried out with the MAIN, Test Scenario GR, the AIQ-21-GR, and the speech samples of the personal narratives. A case-study design was followed which included three people with chronic aphasia who participated in the communication group. PWA were supported by four communication partners, who were speech and language therapy students supervised by academics. The intervention revealed positive results in the narrative skills of PWA, improved functional communication, and increased their quality of life. Outcomes support that the active involvement of PWA during the intervention has a positive influence on their communication skills, as the intervention was tailor-made to the needs and interests of the participants. It is recommended that researchers use PPI during group intervention in chronic ...
