      Understanding the role of ecosystems in emitting or sequestering carbon is essential, especially in forest ecosystems. However, studies in tropical forests to quantify this outflow are still scarce. In this context, the present study aimed to quantify the carbon (C) efflux from the soil through measurements of soil respiration without litter using the Soda Lime (SL) method in the Tijuca Forest. The study was conducted in the Tijuca Forest, in an experimental area of approximately 0.25 hectares where the treatments were placed at random. The measurements were carried out between the 15th and the 30th of each month, between October 2019 and September 2020. The measurements with SL were validated by means of the infrared gas analyzer (Infrared Gas Analyzer - IRGA). The SL method showed satisfactory results in relation to the IRGA, with a linear correlation coefficient r = 0.976 and Willmot's agreement index d = 0.989. The results showed seasonality of the C efflux during the months of measurement, presenting the highest efflux in the summer (7.70 gCm-2day-1) and the lowest in the winter (1.15 gCm-2day-1). Temperature was the key abiotic factor for fluctuations in C effluxs. ; Compreender a função dos ecossistemas em emitir ou sequestrar carbono é fundamental, principalmente em ecossistemas florestais.
