Inter-Allied Games picture set: poster with 15 photographs

This is a small poster featuring images from the Inter-Allied Games held from June 22 thru July 6, 1919. This poster has 15 photographs. The photographs are numbered and labeled. Boxing, track events, and horse-riding events are represented. There are also soldiers and athletes marching in the opening ceremonies and planes flying over the games and stadium. This is one poster in a set of posters, of which 13 are in this collection, that show photographs taken by the United States Signal Corps of the events, facilities, and participants of the Inter-Allied Games. According to one of the posters, sets of these pictures could be gotten from H. S. Drucker in Paris. ; The Inter-Allied Games were held from June 22 – July 6, 1919. The event was only open to participation by military personnel who were currently serving or had formerly served in the armed forces during the War. No Women participated. Around 1500 athletes from around eighteen nations including (just to name a few) Australia, Canada, Czecho-Slovakia (as it was known in 1919), France, Hedjaz (Arabia), Italy, the U.K., and the U.S., participated. Nineteen sports were featured, including baseball, basketball, boxing, football, golf, swimming, track and field, tennis and even hand grenade tossing. The host stadium, named the Pershing Stadium, was built near the Bois de Vincennes by the U.S. Military in cooperation with the YMCA. After the games, the stadium was presented as a gift to French people. More than 500,000 spectators witnessed the competition. ; This poster was photographed and then cropped to deal with some of the inconsistances from the photography.
