      The Internet has turned our society upside down to such an extent that it has become anessential means of communication in every field. Whether for professional or personalpurposes, it is so easy to post a profile, text and photograph, on a website to introduceyourself. The photograph posted online contains a number of characteristics which, taken as awhole, express more or less consciously the subject's past and present experience, reflexivityand expectations of the person for whom the photo is intended, the unknown observer.We were interested in how web users appropriate this tool to present themselves visually,according to the gender and purpose of three types of website chosen for their sociologicaldifferences: academic, political and dating. We built up a corpus of 1,200 subjects andconducted a quantitative content analysis on some twenty visual markers. Overall, academicsare serious but empathetic, politicians are the most homogeneous, with a sober, smiling,formal presentation, and dating candidates are multifaceted with a more pronounced socialsetting, casual clothing, and a wide range of facial expressions. This work has shown thepersistence of "universal" gendered stereotypes marked by the register of importance, such aswearing a suit or glasses for men, and emotional expressiveness, such as a frank smile or headtilt, for women. However, in this work we reveal a tendency of repositioning of the twogenders: "masculine" markers are expressed in certain female politicians, and "feminine"markers are detected in certain men on the dating site. In conclusion, the "gender display"described by Goffman in 1959, according to which women pose in a "political" way tocement "a hierarchy of power in which women are submissive to dominant men", tends to bedeconstructed in favor of more personal and/or context-appropriate motivations. ; Internet a bousculé notre société à tel point qu’il est devenu un mode de communicationincontournable dans tous les domaines.
