Utopia in the 'Quixote': the speech on the Golden Age ; Utopía en el «Quijote»: el discurso de la Edad de Oro

In this article I deal with Don Quixote’s speech on the Golden Age. The speech is studied as a fictitious one within a fictional work. The utopia contained in the speech is explained as a core element of Cervantes’s Don Quixote and the speech is considered to be an active and dynamic axis of this work. The opposition existing in the speech between present and past times is viewed both as social and cultural structure not only of the speech but also of the whole work because of the activation of analogy as a foundation of the literary construction of Don Quixote. The perspectives and instruments offered by Cultural Rhetoric are used to elucidate the composition of the speech and its role in the whole text where it is embedded. The awareness of the importance of the voices of the characters in Don Quixote allows to focus the speech as one of the main results of the function of voices in the novel in the construction of the hero and as a representation of society. Thence, Don Quixote’s speech on the Golden Age is an essential component of the work. ; En este artículo me ocupo del discurso de don Quijote sobre la Edad de Oro. Se estudia el discurso como un discurso ficticio dentro de una obra ficcional. La utopía contenida en el discurso es explicada como un elemento central del Quijote de Cervantes y el discurso es considerado como un eje activo y dinámico de esta obra. La oposición que hay en el discurso entre el tiempo presente y el tiempo pasado es vista a la vez como estructura social y cultural no solo del discurso, sino también de toda la obra por la activación de la analogía como fundamento de la construcción literaria del Quijote. Las perspectivas y los instrumentos que ofrece la Retórica Cultural se emplean para elucidar la composición del discurso y su papel en la totalidad del texto en el que está inserto.
