ARTICULAÇÃO SOCIOAMBIENTAL A PARTIR DA SUB-BACIA HIDROGRÁFICA DO RIO JURAMENTO EM MINAS GERAIS

Hydrographic basins are socioenvironmental articulation tools. The hydrographic sub-basin of the Juramento River, located in Minas Gerais, faces degrading processes that imply in the public water supply to the main urban center in the north region of Minas Gerais, the municipality of Montes Claros. In conformity with the 2030 Agenda, social engagement is indispensable for the applicability and recovery of these degraded hydric ecosystems. The overall objective of this article is to examine the socioenvironmental impact of the sub-basin of Juramento River, through the detailed investigation of the use and occupation of soil during the years 1987 and 2017, relating the water supply uncertainty experienced by the population of Montes Claros. Bibliographical, documental, cartographical, and field analyses were carried out through interviews and photographic records. It was identified the spread of monocultures such as eucalyptus and pasture over native foliage, since these anthropic usages produce soil exposition and carrying towards the water course beds. In order to recover the water resource potential, engineering environmental interventions were proposed, also fostering the creation of a committee for the hydrographic sub-basin.
