      The specialized literature indicates that students with giftedness tend to be neglected in the classroom, as common sense leads to believe that they do not need special attention, because they can develop on their own, which many sometimes causes the opposite, that is, the non-development of their potentials. Thus, these students end up losing their talents for lack of encouragement and proper care. Thus, this article aims to investigate the assistance of students with giftedness in schools in the municipal network of Corumbá in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Consequently, this research has as specific objectives: to analyze whether schools offer specialized educational services for students with giftedness; check who are the students with giftedness nominated for the specialized educational services; analyze the conceptions of technical professionals in Special Education about the assistance to students with giftedness. Based on semi-structured interviews with three professionals, it is concluded that municipal schools in Corumbá are not prepared to serve students with giftedness, as they lack more multifunctional resource classrooms, qualified and sufficient professionals to meet the demand of Special Education, especially for students with giftedness. Finally, the lack of information and training of professionals who work in common education makes it difficult to identify and assist these students. ; A literatura especializada aponta que alunos com altas habilidades/superdotação (AH/SD) tendem a ser negligenciados em sala de aula, pois o senso comum leva a acreditar que não precisam de atenção diferenciada, porque podem se desenvolver sozinhos, o que muitas vezes faz com que aconteça o contrário, isto é, o não desenvolvimento de seus potenciais. Dessa forma, esses estudantes acabam perdendo seus talentos por falta de estímulo e um atendimento adequado.
