      The objective of this article is to investigate the process of creation of the journal Educação Matemática Pesquisa and of the Programa de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Educação Matemática da PUC-SP, through data collected from interviews with important characters in this process and who played a decisive role in the contexts under analysis: Professors Silvia Dias Alcântara Machado and Sonia Barbosa Camargo Igliori. The qualitative research conducted is inserted, from the methodological point of view, in the field of Thematic Oral History. Among our questions to the interviewees, they contemplated the following aspects: how the transition from a Mathematics Program to a Mathematics Education Program took place, the contributions of the Program to the Brazilian Mathematics Education scenario, the origin of the journal Educação Matemática Pesquisa, as well as the motivation for its creation, the main challenges and the main contributions of the journal to Mathematics Education, in national and international contexts, during its 25 years of existence. As results of this research, we can state that the change from a Mathematics Program to a Mathematics Education Program, which took place in 1994, was carefully thought out by those who were engaged in it, it counted with the collaboration of internationally renowned researchers, and, through the creation, in 1999, of the Journal linked to it, besides expanding the space for the diffusion of national research in the area, it provided an opportunity for international exchanges - 432 different institutions from 40 countries are present in the articles - that strengthened the recognition of both the Program and the Journal. ; El objetivo de este artículo es investigar el proceso de creación de la revista Educação Matemática Pesquisa y del Programa de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Educação Matemática da PUC-SP, a través de datos recogidos en entrevistas con personajes relevantes en este proceso y que tuvieron un papel decisivo en los contextos analizados: las profesoras Silvia Dias ...
