      Biochemical indicators are used primarily to find subclinical deficiencies in the field of clinical nutrition. They can be applied to confirm a nutritional diagnosis by defect or excess, which is used to evaluate the result of nutritional therapy or establish a patient's conditions. The research is qualitative, transversal, and documentary. Its objective is to analyze the biochemical indicators that evaluate the nutritional status of excess and deficiency in school-age children from this search and bibliographic analysis of documents contained in databases. They permitted access to indexed health pages and journals such as Google Scholar Scopus, Pubmed, MedLine, Elsevier, Lilacs, Latindex, Dialnet. Thus, 58 documents that were about the inclusion and exclusion criteria were considered as the study population. Nutritional alterations and biochemical indicators can evaluate the state of excess and deficiency in school-age children. The nutritional evaluation considers methodological aspects related to anthropometric, clinical, biochemical, and dietary parameters, which provide an appropriate diagnostic model. Within the investigated topic is the hematological and co-proparasitic examinations. The conclusion is when interpreting the modifications suffered by the biochemical indicators in schoolchildren who present nutritional states due to excess and deficiency; biochemical indicators show irregularities before noticeable clinical changes appear and detect weaknesses in the subclinical phase. These indicators can be obtained by measuring active precursors in biological fluids or in blood cells. Key words: Biochemical indicators, nutritional status, excess assessment, defect.
