نبذة مختصرة : Illustration depicts members of the Delaware Nation, including Hopocan, standing on top of a hill and looking out over a wooded area where a group of settlers are standing. Text box reads "King Hopocan, he of panther skin and eagle claw, ruler over the famous Portage Path, ancient boundary between the Six Nations and the Western Indians, standing on the northern terminus of the great highway at Old Portage, saw the ending of his reign the latter part of the 18th Century. Down in the Cuyahoga Valley he saw the upper headquarters of the surveying party of 1797. It was 135 years before Akron was born. Pioneer settlers were to follow. It was the dawn of civilization here in the great Western Reserve. Old Portage was the site of a military post in 1812 and was considered by early pioneers as the 'Center of Civilization'. Portage Path was eight miles long and over it Indians carried their canoes from the Cuyahoga to the Tuscarawas River".
