      PH 203 Contemporary Philosophy An investigation of British and American philosophy of this century; particularly the philosophies of G. E. Moore, Bertrand Russell, and Ludwig Wittgenstein. (R). Prerequisite: 3 cr. hrs. in philosophy or permission of the Instructor. PH 204 Religions of the World A presentation and comparison of the main doctrines of Buddhism, Christianity, Conficuianism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Taoism. PH 301 Philosophy A study of particular topics of interest. The specific topic for study will be an­ nounced with the course offering in the class schedules. (Philosophy majors may take SO 422 for philosophy elective with written permission of the Philosophy Area of Study Chairman.) PH 302 Knowledge and Reality A consideration of basic problems in the area of Metaphysics (study of the nature of reality) and Epistemology (study of our ways of knowledge) such as rationalism, empiricism, materialism, idealism, realism, nominalism, etc. Prerequisite: 3 cr. hrs. in philosophy or permission of the Instructor. PH 303 Aesthetics (Philosophy of Art) An exploration of the philosophy of art from Plato to Wittgenstein with particular re­ gard to the problems of defining a work of art and determining what is beautiful. Required for art majors. Offered every other year. Prerequisite: 3 cr. hrs. in phi­ losophy or permission of the Instructor. PH 304 Philosophy of Religion Analysis of the standard philosophic problems raised by religions and the status of these problems in contemporary philosophy (existence of gods, human nature, mysticism, religious language). Prerequisite: 3 cr. hrs. in philosophy or permission of the Instructor. PH 305 Advanced Logic A continuation of PH 103 Introduction to Logic (quantificational logic, the truth­ tree method, adequacy of the tree method, undecidability and incompleteness). Prerequisite: PH 103 or permission of the Instructor. PH 401 Studies in Philosophy Individual studies in topics of special interest to the student. May be taken more than once to study different ...
