نبذة مختصرة : Mrs. Robert C. Chance 73 Mill Street Mount Holly, New Jersey U.S.A. Cpl. Albert Chance 32362335 Med. Det. 360th. AAA SL Bn. A.P.O. 700 c/o Postmaster N. June 17, 1943 Dear Bob and Claudine Received letter #9 several days ago. I imagine that by now you are receiving my letters regularly. I try to get one off each week. It seems that nearly everyone spent Memorial Day quietly at home, and quite a few wrote a letter to me on that day. As far as we were concerned, if I hadnt looked at a cal- endar, I wouldnt have known it was a holiday. I know you had an enjoyable time at Rest-a-Bit. Well, I gave up farm life this afternoon. I came back to our Detachment headquarters after an absence of about two months, when I was assigned to one of the Batteries on detached service. We have a grand location here right on the Sea. There is a cliff that goes right up from the water, and the houses where we are quartered are about halfway down the cliff. Right in front of us is a narrow sandy beach, and all we have to do is go down the steps and jump in. They will have to teach Barbara the difference between poison ivy and flowers. She has been quite fortunate in not getting poison yet. I havnt [sic] seen any of that around here. Grapes, figs and olives are nearly ripe by now. Also we are getting some fresh tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. After supper, we have been getting together and making a bowel [sic] of salad which tastes mighty good, after a continuous diet of canned goods. How many chickens does Bob have now, and is he getting any eggs? If he could only sell his eggs at the price the men over here pay, ten cents each, he would do pretty good. His improvements must make the place much nicer, and if he could get the low ground filled in, and planted in grass, it would make the place very attractive. I have certainly hope it wont [sic] be necessary for him to go into the Army. Have they made any changes in his classification? I guess you are glad that vacation has started. I hope you can have a good restful summerand [sic] ...
