In recent years, the re-writings of myths which try to introduce ideological aspects opposed to those of the traditional myth have become very frequent. Feminist reinterpretations are especially abundant and, among them, Penelope is a very popular character. She either gets tired of waiting for a usually mediocre Ulysses, or wants to travel herself, choosing a solution that does not sacrifice her independence. While Penelope is transformed into a feminist icon, Helen of Troy, who traditionally has represented her counterpart, has yet to be renovated. In that regard, Galician literature is not an exception: Penelope appears in the works of outstanding authors, like Álvaro Cunqueiro, Xohana Torres or even Rosalía de Castro, who give her a great symbolic value or turn her into the master of her destiny. However, the works that include Helen are rare and, in them, Menelaus’ wife still represents vanity, inextricably linked to physical beauty ; En los últimos tiempos, las reescrituras mitológicas que tratan de introducir aspectos ideológicos revisados en el mito hegemónico son muy frecuentes. Las reinterpretaciones feministas son especialmente abundantes y, entre ellas, el personaje de Penélope resulta muy popular. Penélope ya se cansa de esperar a Ulises, ya quiere viajar ella misma, o opta por una solución que no sacrifique su independencia. Mientras que Penélope se transforma en icono feminista, Helena de Troya, el personaje que tradicionalmente representó su contrapunto, todavía no vio su imagen revisada. En este aspecto, la literatura gallega no es una excepción: Penélope aparece en la obra de autores que le conceden un alto valor simbólico o la transforman en dueña de su destino. Sin embargo, las obras que incluyen a Helena son mucho más escasas y, en ellas, la esposa de Menelao sigue representando la vanidad, unida a la belleza física.
