نبذة مختصرة : The performance of 150 min / week of moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) is associated with better functional capacity in the elderly. However, the majority of the elderly perform less than 150 min / week of MVPA. The aim of the study is to investigate the association between functional capacity and the level of MVPA in the elderly. Therefore, 231 elderly residents in the community (81.8% women; 65.9 ± 5.0 years) were investigated. The AFMV level was assessed by an accelerometer for seven days. According to the level of MVPA, the elderly were classified as: i) 'very inactive' (<50 min / week, n = 66); ii) 'inactive' (50-99 min / week, n = 49); iii) ‘little active’ (100–149 min / wk, n = 48) e; iv) ‘active’ (150–300 min / week, n = 68). Functional capacity was assessed by the six-minute walk test, walking speed, sit and stand in 30s, timed up and go (TUG), and sit and reach. In addition, a general functional capacity score was analyzed, used by the sum of the z scores of the tests. Generalized linear models were used for data analysis. Compared to the 'very inactive' group, the 'little active' and 'active' groups had the highest performance (p <0.05) in the six-minute walk tests [β (95% CI): 30.1 m (6; 54, 2) and 42.2m (18.7; 65.6), respectively], TUG [-0.6s (-1; -0.2) and -0.3s (-0.7; -0.01 ), respectively], sit and stand in 30s [2 repetitions (1; 3.1) and 1.1 repetitions (0.2; 2), respectively], sit and reach [3.9 cm (0.2; 7 , 7)) and 4.2 cm (0.7; 7.7), respectively] and in the general score of functional capacity [2 (0.9; 3.2) and 1.7 (0.6; 2, 8), respectively]. In conclusion, elderly people who perform 100 min / week of MVPA have better functional capacity than those who do <50 min / week. ; Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte ; A realização de 150 min/sem de atividade física moderada-vigorosa (AFMV) é associada a uma melhor capacidade funcional em idosos.
