      The main objective of this study was to evaluate the phenolic composition and antioxidant capacity of selected sweet wines produced in Cyprus or imported from Mediterranean countries. In addition, a comparison of Commandaria, which hold a protected designation of origin, with selected sweet wines was performed. In the present study, we calculated the color parameters (density, hue), as well as we determined total phenolics, hydroxycinnamates, flavonols and total anthocyanins. Furthermore, the antioxidant capacity of sweet wines was assessed using two in vitro tests (DPPH, FRAP). The color parameters showed a great diversity among the wines studied. In particular, color density and hue of Commandaria wines are statistically different among studied sweet wines. Regarding to phenolics, the concentration of phenolic compounds ranged from 138 to 1311 mg gallic acid/L wine. The content of hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives and flavonols was significantly lower; hydroxycinnamates were found between 60 and 372 mg caffeic acid/L wine and flavonols between 87-614 mg rutin/L wine, respectively. Total anthocyanins of Commandaria have low concentration, since they decreased during aging. Both antioxidant capacity assays demonstrated significant differences between studied wines. In particular, the antioxidant capacity was 919.5-1765.5 mg Trolox/ L wine for DPPH assay and 247.0-2276.9 mg Trolox/ L for FRAP method. Finally, the concentration of total phenols and anthocyanins or DPPH radical scavenging activity can be used to distinguish Commandaria from sweet wines. ; Σκοπός της παρούσας πτυχιακής μελέτης είναι η αξιολόγηση της φαινολικής σύστασης και της αντιοξειδωτικής ικανότητας επιλεγμένων γλυκών οίνων που παράγονται στην Κύπρο ή εισάγονται από Μεσογειακές χώρες.
