Este artículo introduce al mercado médico del Chile urbano de fines del XIX e inicios del siglo XX. Reflexiona en torno a las relaciones entre medicalización y comercio, para luego presentar algunas características del mercado médico urbano por medio del comercio exterior, del comercio al por menor y de la celebración industrial. Analiza la expansión del mercado médico y la diversificación de los productos terapéuticos, vinculándolos con los procesos de medicalización y de urbanización de la sociedad chilena. ; This article presents the Chilean medical marketplace from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Firstly, it examines the relationship between medicalization and commerce. Secondly, it shows some features of the urban medical marketplace through the international trade, the retail trade and the celebration of industrial production. It analyses the growth of the medical market and the diversification of therapeutics objects, and related them to the medicalization and urbanization processes of Chilean society.
