      The article analyzes the texts of modern textbooks on literary reading in terms of the embodiment in their content of the universal values of life determined by the Concept of the New Ukrainian School, describes and characterizes the concepts disclosed in the texts of the textbooks. The author states that in the focus of attention of modern education are the principles of pedagogy of cooperation, humane pedagogy, partnership interaction between the participants in the pedagogical process, features of the teacher-student dialogue, ethical standards of communication between the teacher and the student, based on the awareness of the value of childhood, universal moral and ethical rules of communication. The results of such a rethinking are implemented in the State standards for various degrees of education. It is noted that the lessons of literary reading have a high potential ability to contribute to the fulfillment of the tasks facing the modern school. The conditions for the formation of such meanings are determined, the concepts updated in the tests of modern books for reading for the second grade are described, examples of imaginative writing in which these concepts are revealed are given. It was found that the authors of the textbooks have updated the content of books for reading. It has been suggested that this is a sign that Ukrainian society is reaching the highest stage of cultural development, returning to its spirituality. The impetus for immersion in the subtle matters of education was modern social problems in Ukraine. It is noted that school textbooks for reading are filled with concepts based on universal moral and ethical principles, they are not ideological. Social values are not imposed on children, they are presented gently through the genres available to them – a story, a fairy tale, a poetic work. It has been studied that there are no completely new concepts, but the concepts of “inclusion”, “good”, “beauty”, “war”, “family values”, “language”, “culture”, “childhood” are presented in a new way ...
