This article aims to analyze the political culture during the 2015 gubernatorial elections in the department of Guaviare (Colombia). Following Spencer (1994), I conceive elections as rituals of participation and legitimation; cultural events that have a strong moral weight that paralyzes and mobilizes the population. The question that guides this research is: how does the process of construction and production of meanings take place in the political culture during the regional elections period? Among the most important findings is that political culture has a foothold in a series of historically institutionalized practices, one of them is clientelism, which, far from being an unofficial bargain of favors in exchange for electoral support, should be understood as a complex of material and discursive practices that are continuously reproduced in and through the daily operation of the political machine (not only during campaigns and elections). Participant observation and semi-structured interviews were the techniques used to collect information in a six month period. ; Este artículo tiene como fin analizar la cultura política durante los comicios electorales de 2015 para la gobernación del departamento del Guaviare. Siguiendo a Spencer (1994), concibo los comicios electorales como rituales de participación y legitimación, sucesos culturales que tienen una fuerte carga moral que paraliza y moviliza a la población. La pregunta que guía esta investigación es: ¿cómo se da el proceso de construcción y producción de significados en la cultura política durante el período de elecciones regionales?
