نبذة مختصرة : Would it be able to think of education on the music teacher course with speciality in for example rock, Brazilian music, Latin American music orwestern classical music? This paper is a study of the instrumental education exemplified by the classes of Prática de Conjunto (Ensemble Playing) at the Music Teaching Course at the State University of Santa Catarina. It presents data concerning the musical preferences of the music teacher students and underlines their expectations in relation to the course. The research was carried out over one year in the form of interviews, observations and questionnaires. The conclusion confirms the importance of instrumental and vocal practice of the students, suggesting that more musical instruments and genres should be accessible on the Music Licentiate Program. It is a study that aims to contribute to the debate about the education of music teachers and, in consequence, support the reforms of Music Licentiate Programs.
