- نبذة مختصرة :
1864-12--24 ; A depiction of Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis fighting. Davis appears exhausted as Lincoln holds him a headlock. Things had not been going well for the South. In the east Petersburg is under siege and the Union forces are stretching the thin Confederate lines further and further. In the west the Confederate Army of Tennessee is destroyed at Nashville in November. After capturing Atlanta in September, William Sherman embarked on his March to the Sea and captured Savannah a few days prior to the publication of this cartoon. With all these victories and the re-election of Lincoln the chances for Southern victory seemed bleak. However, this cartoon also stresses the fact that Lincoln was willing to pursue a policy of reconciliation if the South were to surrender.
