Much debate has taken place regarding political rights and the importance of education for US citizens during the late 18th century, when the Thirteen American Colonies secured their independence from England. There was a great disparity between the equality speeches given at the time – as the Declaration of Independence itself – and the reality experienced by women. This essay aims to understand how the texts published by Judith Murray, Catharine Macaulay, Mercy Otis Warren and Phillis Wheatley contributed to the debate on political, social e educational equality during the 18th century. The method involves the analysis of texts published by them in parallel with the context of time, the emergence of female academies and the formation of the first literary circles. I conclude the the scenario contributed to the construction of a national identify and the publishings contributed to important changes in the political perception of women, creating the Seneca Falls Convention for their rights in 1848. ; Muitos debates ocorreram a respeito dos direitos políticos e da importância da educação para os cidadãos dos Estados Unidos durante o final do século XVIII, época em que as Treze Colônias conquistaram sua independência da Inglaterra. Havia uma grande disparidade nos discursos de igualdade proferidos na época - a exemplo da própria Declaração de Independência - e a realidade vivida pelas mulheres. Este artigo tem como objetivo compreender de que forma os textos publicados por Judith Murray, Catharine Macaulay, Mercy Otis Warren e Phillis Wheatley contribuíram para o debate sobre igualdade política, social e educacional durante o século XVIII.
