In the present work the study was carried out on the level of knowledge about prevention and its relation in the oral health of the pregnant mothers in order to obtain a real evaluation of this problematic and thus to have a base to put in practice preventive methods through Universities, hospitals and private practice, thus contributing to the oral health of our population; This study evaluated the Level of Knowledge of the Outpatient Patients of the Isidro Ayora Gino-Obstetric Hospital on oral care during the gestation and lactation period. The level of knowledge about dental development and main oral diseases was established, such as the level of education, the pregnancy rate and age; The data collection process was carried out through the application of a survey consisting of 17 questions; The sample consisted of 129 pregnant mothers, the most frequent age range was 20 years average, together they are found at week 27 of pregnancy; 73 percent of the respondents belong to the North and South of the city of Quito, the most predominant level of education was the secondary school and the vast majority said they planned their delivery as a normal birth. When analyzing the surveys it was possible to conclude that a 60 percent relation was found between the following: they are currently not receiving dental treatment, they would not give a pacifier to their future baby, caries is not a contagious disease, and they do not consider it right to kiss their mouths. Children do not consider it true that for each pregnancy a tooth is lost and they think that the feeding and medication taken during their pregnancy would not affect the teeth of their future baby.
