نبذة مختصرة : Intestinal trichomoniasis in felines is caused by the protozoan Tritrichomonas foetus and causes chronic diarrhea in affected animals. The infection occurs more frequently in felines that live in stressful environments with high population density, in addition to commonly affecting young animals and newborns. By colonizing the host's cecum and distal ileum, this protozoan causes intestinal disorders that can result in increased frequency of defecation, feces with or without the presence of mucus and/or blood, pain, tenesmus, colitis, anal orifice inflammation and rectal prolapse. Contamination occurs through contact with the feces of infected animals through sharing containers or ingesting excrement through felines' licking habit. Regarding treatment, the drug of choice with proven efficacy in felines is ronidazole, however its sale is prohibited in Brazil. That said, the present work aimed to describe a case of T. foetus infection in a young female feline. It was treated in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte (MG) and diagnosed through coproparasitological examination, using the direct fresh method from rectal washing, which subsequently detected the presence of oocysts suggestive of Toxoplasma gondii. Furthermore, the work details the treatment used with alternative drugs to ronidazole, namely tinidazole and secnidazole. Those were effective in the doses and administrations used to reduce the amount of T. foetus trophozoites per field. Also, the treatment standard therapy for T. gondii acted to improve the intestinal environment, function and immunological integrity of the host.
