The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Article 15 proclaims that citizenship is one of thebasic human rights, the implementation of which gives a person with a citizen status the opportunity topossess a full range of rights and freedoms, as well as to properly fulfill his duties enshrined in the relevantlegislative acts of the state. The institution of citizenship, as you know, is one of the main signs of statesovereignty and is closely related to the obligation of the state to protect the rights and legitimate interests ofcitizens of this state. The legal status of an individual is based on legal relations of citizenship, and theessence of citizenship lies in the relationship between a person and the state, that is, citizenship is the legalbelonging of a person to a particular state.This approach allows us to determine the essence, content of the institution of citizenship and itsconstitutive features.
