Teenage pregnancy, their rise and meanings: the reality of a health unit

Objective: to know the motives and meanings of pregnancy among teenage girls met in a prenatal health unit Juazeiro-BA. Method: exploratory and descriptive, qualitative approach, developed with pregnant adolescents aged between 15 and 19 years were enrolled in the Family Health Unit Argemiro in the municipality of Juazeiro - BA. Was approved by the Ethics Committee (CEP) Institute of Integrative Medicine Professor Fernando Figueira (IMIP) under the number 1719/10. Were conducted 10 semi-structured interviews, which were subsequently transcribed and analyzed according to Bardin's content analysis. Results: it was possible the construction of 05 categories, it is emphasized that teenage pregnancy has different motives and meanings. Among these reasons, there was the desire, conscious and unconscious, being the mother of teenagers surveyed, the irregular use of contraceptives and lack of their ovulatory period. Meanings of motherhood emerged as the possibility of becoming more mature. Conclusion: therefore, adolescent motherhood involves very complex factors and requires an integrated and holistic care, focussing on the teen and family. Thus, it is important to devise effective public policies targeted to this population. Método: estudo exploratório e descritivo, de abordagem qualitativa, desenvolvido com adolescentes grávidas com idade entre 15 e 19 anos, cadastradas na Unidade de Saúde da Família Argemiro, no município de Juazeiro – BA.
