نبذة مختصرة : Primary lung neoplasms are uncommon in animals when compared to cases described in humans. In wild felids, primary lung cancer is rarely diagnosed. The objective is to describe a case of primary papillary adenocarcinoma of the lung and chronic renal failure in an African lion (Panthera leo), male, aged 20 years old, raised in an enclosure in the Parque Zoobotânico Arruda Câmara, in the city of João Pessoa-PB. The lion was anesthetized and subjected to exams for presenting a picture suggestive of affection of the urinary system. On clinical examination, the animal presented progressive weight loss, choluria, hematuria, polyuria and pain when standing up. The blood picture showed a normochromic anemia associated with macrocytosis. In the serum biochemical evaluation, a picture of proteinuria and azotemia was observed. The animal died when it underwent the second anesthetic procedure for detailed clinical evaluation. The corpse was sent for necroscopic examination and fragments of all internal organs were collected. Then, the samples were sent for processing at the Laboratório de Histopatologia Veterinária (LPV) of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba-UFPB, in the city of Areia-PB. Macroscopically, multiple nodules, white and firm, were found in the lung parenchyma. The liver had multiple rounded and transparent structures, characteristic of peribiliary cysts. Histologically, the nodules were decapsulated with a papillary pattern and covered by tall columnar cells. The kidneys had glomeruli with highly cellular tufts and marked thickening of the glomerular basement membrane with loss of urinary space. Many glomeruli were atrophied, interpreted as glomerulosclerosis. Amorphous eosinophilic material was abundant in the tubule lumen, interpreted as protein loss. Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis was diagnosed. In the histochemical staining with periodic acid of Schiff (PAS) in the renal tissue, the lesion of glomerulosclerosis was confirmed. In the immunohistochemistry examination of the lung tissue, there was ...
