This thesis examines the experiences of the initiators of the Finnish demolition art projects. The various phases of the projects have been taken into consideration. Demolition art projects are community art-based and implemented on properties intended for demolition. Projects are also implemented without the support of the established art institutions. I research demolition art projects and the experiences of the initiators because they represent a recent phenomenon in the field of contemporary art. There has also been no previous research in the field of art education on the subject. The goal of this thesis is to form a depiction of the various phases of demolition art projects. In addition, this thesis deciphers the experiences of the demolition art project initiators. The importance of the activity has also been taking into consideration from the perspective of art education. This thesis combines phenomenological and ethnographic research strategies. The research material has been collected by interviewing four individuals who have worked in directive positions in different demolition art projects. The material is complemented by digital photos taken from completed projects. The research material has been analyzed using content analysis. The theoretical background of this study consists of examination of the concepts of community art, site-specific art, new genre public art and civic activism in previous research. Demolition art is presented as its own concept through the four concepts mentioned above. The study indicates how demolition art projects function in cycles that are shaped through the experiences of demolition art projects. The cycle of art activity is divided into four phases, which are starting the operation, project implementation, documentation, and reflection. At the end of this thesis, the effects and significance of the projects are considered among possible future research topics. ; Tämä tutkielma tarkastelee Suomessa toteutettavien purkutaideprojektien alkuunpanijoiden kokemuksia ...
