      Introduction: Early and effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation has become the most important predictor of long-term survival and quality of life in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients. Given the importance and the need to extend the teaching of cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the entire population, it was decided to focus on the preschool population. Objective: To make a first approach to the first actions that constitute the basic life support in the preschool population. Methods: Descriptive study presenting the design of an educational intervention to introduce basic life support to school children ages 5 to 7. A convenience sample of 64 boys and girls from an educational institution in the city of Bogotá, Colombia, was used. The intervention consists of two educational sessions delivered virtually through the Teams platform and designed based on the model of transferring thinking processes to teaching and learning. The story Calixto y el bocado de manzana (Calixto and the apple bite) and the song Salva a un amigo (Save a friend), created by the UN Salvavidas project of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, were used for this purpose. The puppets Calixto the Cat, the Sheep, and the Hen, characters from the plays mentioned above and five supporting video clips were also created. The ethical aspects of respect, privacy, the search for good and justice, and the consent and assent of the participants were considered. A pre-intervention test and a post-intervention test were conducted to compare the knowledge acquired. Results: At the end of the sessions, the children could express and recognize dangerous situations, the emergency number, the conditions for activating this system, the characteristics of a person needing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and how to act. Conclusions: The didactic strategy contained in the intervention, developed through repetitive audiovisual presentations, proved to be effective for learning at the school level.
