Impact of drug use on adolescent mental health: a systematic review ; Impacto del consumo de drogas en la salud mental de adolescentes: revisión sistemática

The healthy growth and development of adolescents is a crucial stage in the formation of individuals capable of contributing positively to society. The frequency of drug use may vary by gender and the reasons for drug use may vary by gender. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of drug use on the mental health of adolescents. The methodology was documentary, descriptive and based mainly on a systematic review of information. It was accessed through academic search databases such as PubMed, Scielo, Google Scholar, NCBI. We re-selected studies published between 2018 and 2024 that address issues of adolescent drug use, risk factors, treatment and prevalence. The results showed that a percentage of 80%, is due to family problems, history of misbehavior and depression. The risk factors associated with drug use, it can be observed that the associated factors are symptoms of anxiety, depression, gender and age. The effectiveness of preventive and therapeutic interventions are cognitive-behavioral therapy; motivational therapy; social support and pharmacological treatment are the most effective for adolescents with some type of addiction. Concluding that the data show a clear link between drug use and various psychological problems, damaging the mental and emotional development of young people and their ability to function in society. ; El crecimiento y desarrollo saludable de los adolescentes constituye una etapa crucial en la formación de individuos capaces de contribuir positivamente a la sociedad.
