      High throughput DNA sequencing machine. Three billion bases of DNA (the number of bases in the human genome), immobilised in an eight lane flow cell inside the chamber, can be sequenced in one four-day run. The reagents for the sequencing reactions are pumped into the flow cell from the section on the left. This rate of sequencing is a vast increase over earlier machines used for the Human Genome Project. This advance makes the sequencing of individual genomes a realistic possibility.
