      This study is inserted in the research line Institutions Educative Practices and it is intregrated in the thematic nucleus Production and Knowledge in Special Education. It consists in a qualitative research of phenomenological approach, whose main aim was to learn the conceptions about the body present in professors of the Physiotherapy Course of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). The approximation of the focused reality was developed with basis in the theory of Social Representations. The technique used for the attainment of the data was the semi-structured interview. The data that emerged went through the process of analysis of content. The Representation of body by the professors was valorized in this study because the educative practices that involve the body, in which the Physiotherapy is included, are based on the conceptions about it, being the case that these conceptions conduct the students’formation and, later the professional practices in Physiotherapy. It is observed, based on the emerged representations, a strong tendency for change, on part of the professors, from mechanical paradigms to a more holistic view of human corporeity. It is observed that the systemic model that explained and fundamented the mechanical techniques of the body are no longer enough for the understanding of the practices about the body. Considering all the aspects inferred from this study, on hopes that it comes to contribute, together with other views, with the spreading of the debates about a new way in the educative practices about the body and corporeity used by professors of courses of the health area. ; Este estudo se insere na linha de pesquisa Práticas Educativas nas Instituições e se integra no núcleo temático Produção e Conhecimento em Educação Especial.
