نبذة مختصرة : The Reporter is a publication produced by Western Carolina University featuring news, events, and campus community updates for faculty and staff. The publication began in August of 1970 and continues digitally today. Click on the link in the “Related Materials” field to access recent issues. ; PLANS BEING MADE FOR SUMMER PROGRAMS The University is now accepting nominations to its summer program for superibr and gifted students. The program, which will run this year from June 30 to July 25, will offer enrichment experiences for fifth- through tenth-graders. A student may not apply for the program directly, but must be nominated by his school principal or guidance counselor. To be eligible, a student must be classified as superior or gifted on an individual intelligence test such as Form L-R of the Revised Stanford Binet Scale, and must have a school achievement record indicating a placement level two gradrs above his actual grade in school. The cost of the four-week program : s $345, which includes tuition, room ant board, book rental, recreation, and hualth services. Now entering its 18th year of operation, the program last summer attracted nearly 300 students from seven states and from 56 of North Carolina's 100 counties. The program is being coordinated by Dr. Lewis E. Cloud, associate professor of curriculum and instruction. A summer institute for mathematics teachers will be offered June 30 through July 11. The institute will consider the history of computing machines, math system base two, and the "CULCOM" and "BASIC" programming languages. Three quarter hours of graduate credit in Math 4366 will be awarded to participants in the institute, which is being funded by the N. C. State Department of Public Instruction. Tuition and fees will be waived for teachers under contract to a local board of education for the 1975-76 school year.
