Mechanical ventilation is an invasive procedure whose purpose is to carry out the gas exchange in the lungs. A mechanical apparatus is used that supplies oxygen when the human respiratory system is insufficient. This technique is widely used in neonatal intensive care units. The main objective is to optimize respiratory function while improving the baby's clinical condition. During the adaptation of the newborn to the external environment, it changes, therefore it is exposed to complications of its age, such as respiratory, nutritional, and comfort. The objective of the research project was to characterize nursing care according to the newborn's respiratory problems and to implement diagnoses, interventions according to NANDA, NOC, and NIC 2015-2017 / 2018-2020. A descriptive and bibliographic review study was carried out. Through the triangulation of criteria of the different authors cited, it considered essential aspects such as the assessment tool, which aimed to establish the nursing diagnosis, followed by the planning of interventions, to execute later and evaluate the process. This study concludes that in addition to the newborn's adaptation to the extrauterine environment, it also faces physiological changes typical of its age. During this stage, the RN faces many complications due to the immaturity of their organs and systems. The prevalent complications are perinatal asphyxia, meconium aspiration, hyaline membrane disease/ respiratory distress syndrome, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
