      This research intends to address one of the most controversial issues in public international law: a manifestly unjust decision as denial of justice. For more than three centuries, efforts have been made to define what manifestly unfair means. Several international tribunals have dealt with the issue and reached different and often contradictory conclusions. We find the same contradictions if we turn to scholarly writings. Despite these differences, there are conceptual similarities in several awards and scholarly writings. In other words, in their attempts of defining what manifestly unjust means, tribunals and academics have faced the same problems. This suggests a number of core issues that must be studied to provide an exact meaning of manifestly unjust. This paper tries to investigate this core issues, identifying them in case law and doctrine, commenting contradictory views of the issue and suggesting what most accurately defines manifestly unjust. We do not intend to give a final solution to the problem, rather, we are trying to analyze the most precise definitions we can find and provide elements for further discussion. ; Esta investigación pretende abordar uno de los temas que más controversia ha causado en el derecho internacional público: una decisión manifiestamente injusta como denegación de justicia. Desde hace más de tres siglos se ha intentado caracterizar lo manifiestamente injusto, separarlo de lo meramente injusto e identificar conductas que puedan considerarse como tales. Varios tribunales internacionales han abordado el tema y han llegado a conclusiones distintas y muchas veces contradictorias. El panorama es similar en los textos académicos desarrollados al respecto. A pesar de las diferencias, existen coincidencias conceptuales en varias decisiones y opiniones doctrinarias.
